Why photography specifically books up faster
Unlike a caterer or a rental company, who can often serve multiple events in the same general timeframe, a photographer can only physically shoot one wedding on a given date. That scarcity — combined with the fact that photography is one of the more emotionally important vendor decisions for most couples — means desirable photographers get locked in earlier than almost anyone else in the vendor lineup.
If you're getting a later start
It's not a dead end — photographers do have last-minute cancellations, and some deliberately keep a portion of their calendar open for shorter-notice bookings. If your timeline is tighter than ideal:
- Be flexible on your exact date or day of the week if at all possible
- Reach out to multiple photographers at once rather than one at a time
- Ask directly whether they have any last-minute openings, rather than assuming a "no" from their general availability
